Complete Hong Kong Sixes Winners List

The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is an international cricket tournament like none other across the world. Known for its unique 6-over and 6-a-side format, the tournament is organised by Cricket Hong Kong and sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC). There have been gaps in between, but the tournament first took place in 1992, with 8 participating teams.

19 editions took place between 1992 and 2017 and all of them featured the same format of 8 teams. However, Hong Kong International Sixes 2024 was announced as a comeback series after 7 years, and this was the first time the tournament featured 12 teams. The format suits all-rounders because everyone apart from the wicket-keeper needs to bowl one over each.

While mostly it’s the same MCC laws of cricket being followed, there are some exceptions like retiring a batter after he scores fifty, and the very famous last man standing rule. So far, all editions have been played at the Kowloon Cricket Club, except for 1996 and 1997 which was contested at the Hong Kong Stadium.

Hong Kong Sixes winners list

Pakistan is the joint most successful team in the Hong Kong Sixes history, lifting the title on 5 occasions, first in 1992 and last in 2011. Pakistan has made the finals in 10 different editions, making them the most consistent side in the league’s history. Apart from them, England and South Africa have also won 5 titles each, but have made fewer finals.

Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies, and India have all won the title once each. India hasn’t seen a lot of success in Hong Kong Sixes history because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doesn’t allow current players to participate in overseas leagues, which means that we’ll mostly find retired cricketers participating for the Men in Blue.

The most runs scored by a player in a single edition belongs to Pakistan’s Umar Akmal who smashed 254 runs in the Hong Kong Sixes 2011 edition. He’s also the only player in the history of the tournament to win two Man of the Tournament awards, doing so in both 2011 and 2012, where he was also the top scorer in both editions.
